Mary Chalmers Keir was born on September 9th1858 in Glasgow, Scotland – the daughter of James Keir, a painter & glazier, & Margaret Dollar.
She emigrated to Otago on the Alpine in 1859 with her family – they lived at first in Dunedin before moving to Hokitika.
In the late 1870’s the family moved back to Dunedin & when Mary signed the suffrage petition they were living in Heriot Row.
In the late 1890’s they moved to Wellington where Mary died on March 24th 1923.
She is buried in the family grave in the Karori Cemetery.
