Biographical information provided by Stefanie Lash for the He Tohu exhibition:

Eveline Kenny was 19 or 20 years old when she signed the Women’s Suffrage Petition. She was born in Cambridge in the Waikato in 1873. Her father had been a veteran of the War in Waikato on the government’s side and obtained land there as a military settler in 1864. Eveline had three sisters and four brothers.

In 1893 Eveline was living on College Road in central Auckland. By 1896 she was living in Hobson Street with her sister, Lilla, who signed the Suffrage Petition beneath Eveline. Both were employed as dressmakers.

She sometimes spelled her name Evelyn, especially after 1900, and in later years lived with her sisters and mother in the family home on Roslyn Terrace in Devonport.
