Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Elizabeth Thomson was born in Ayrshire, Scotland about 1821. She married Samuel Lind, a hand loom weaver, on 10 August 1838 in Glasgow.

They had six children before the family emigrated to Otago on the Strathfieldsaye in 1858 and they settled in Dunedin.

Their last child was born after their arrival - he died at two years of age.

Samuel died in 1862 and when Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition she was living in Port Chalmers.

She died at her daughter’s home on 1 December 1898 and is buried with Samuel in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
