Marion Helen Steele MacGoun was born about 1847 in Germany - the daughter of Duncan Malcolm MacGoun, a merchant, and Catherine Steele.

Shortly after her birth Marion’s family moved to live in Greenock in Scotland.

Around this time her father died & a few years later the family emigrated to New Zealand.

Marion married Robert Park MacGoun, a clerk and possibly her cousin, on February 4th 1875 at Knox Church, Dunedin.
