Ann Stout was born in Orkney, Scotland about 1829 – the daughter of James Stout, a fisherman, and Isabella Bremner.

She had a daughter in 1854 before marrying George Manson, also a fisherman, on 11 February 1858.

They had six children, one who died in infancy before they emigrated to Otago in the 1870s.

When Ann signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Frederick St, Dunedin.

George died in 1905 in Dunedin and Ann died in Auckland on 6 July 1910, they are buried with their son in the Northern Cemetery, Dunedin.
