Bessie/Betsy Millar was born about 1843 in Forfarshire, Scotland.
She emigrated to New Zealand and married William Dues McBride, a tailor, on 11 June 1864 in Dunedin.
The couple had nine children and when Bessie signed the suffrage petition the family were living in the Nevada subdivision of Roslyn.
William died in 1900 and Bessie died on 28 July 1926, they are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
Bessie’s daughter Betsy Millar McBride was born in 1868 in New Zealand, she did not marry and when she signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family working as a weaver.
She lived with her family until her death on 24 December 1923 and is buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
