Bessie McCartney

Elizabeth Logan McCartney was born in 1871 in Girvan, Ayrshire, Scotland. She was the daughter of William McCartney and Agnes Milliken.

William, a fisherman and grocer, married Agnes in 1871 and died the same year.

Agnes married William Slemint in 1877 in Girvan and, in 1880, with Elizabeth they emigrated to Otago on the Canterbury.

There were five half siblings born in New Zealand. In 1893 Bessie was living with her mother and step father in Upper Stafford St, Dunedin.

Bessie died in 1952 and her remains were cremated.
