Ann McDougall was born in New Zealand in 1871 – the daughter of Donald McDougall, a platelayer, and Jemima Thomson.
When she signed the suffrage petition Ann was living with her family in Palmerston working as a dressmaker.
She married George Hatcher, a coach driver, at her home on April 28th 1897. They had 4 children, one who died in infancy.
In the 1900s the family moved to a farm at Wickliffe Bay on the Otago Peninsula for a short time.
George died in Dunedin in 1912 – two years later their 9 year old Rita also died.
Ann died on March 26th 1943 in Dunedin. She is buried with George in the family grave in the Portobello Cemetery.
