Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley.

Margaret Donaldson was born on December 24th 1830 in Alva, Stirlingshire, Scotland, the daughter of Alexander Donaldson and Margaret Lochhead.

She married Malcolm Campbell on July 24th 1857 in Alva. They had a son who appears to have died in infancy before they emigrated to Otago in November that year on the Robert Henderson.

They settled in Dunedin and had a further five children.

Malcolm died in 1869 and Margaret remarried in 1871 to Peter McGregor, a widower with four children and a farmer. Peter had been a fellow traveller on the Robert Henderson.

Margaret and Peter had two sons, and they farmed at Mt Cargill near Dunedin.

When Margaret signed the suffrage petition they were living at Pine Hill, north of Dunedin.

Margaret died at her son’s home in Pine Hill on September 12th 1900. She is buried with Malcolm in the Waitati Cemetery.

Peter died at his daughter’s home in North East Valley in 1911. He is buried with his first wife in the Southern Cemetery.
