Margaret/Maggie McLean was born on 11 April 1870 in Blair Atholl, Perthshire, Scotland – the daughter of John McLean, a meal miller, and Margaret Stewart. (See 149 Mrs McLean) Maggie’s family emigrated to New Zealand in the mid 1870s and when she signed the suffrage petition they were living in Felix St, North East Valley and she was working as a saleswoman.

She married James Joseph Ledgerwood, a tailor, on 9 November 1899 in Dunedin and they had four daughters.

James died in 1952 and Margaret died on 5 October 1956, they are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
