Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Agnes Melrose was born about 1805 in Roxburghshire, Scotland.

She married agricultural labourer James Melrose in Roxburghshire in June 1837 and they had one daughter. (See 155 Isabella Sommerville)

James died in 1869 and sometime after this Agnes emigrated to Otago to join her daughter.

When Agnes signed the suffrage petition she was living either with or near her daughter in Rockyside, North East Valley.

Agnes died at her daughter’s home on 15 July 1901 at the age of 94 – she is buried with her daughter’s family in the Northern Cemetery.
