Sarah Parker was born in 1866 - the daughter of John Thomas Bowley Parker and Selina Martin.

The Parkers were a musical family. John Parker conducted various orchestras in Dunedin and his children played a variety of instruments. In 1882 John conducted the 'first Ladies Orchestra in the Australasian Colonies' for their inaugural performance and in 1884 a concert was given featuring S Parker – pianist.

Sarah worked as a music teacher for the years 1906 to 1933. After her sister Esther was widowed in 1933 she lived with Sarah until her death in 1952.

Sarah died on 3 January 1954, she is buried with her sister Esther Parker in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
