Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Elizabeth Reid was born about 1816 in Clackmannanshire, Scotland – the daughter of John Reid.

She married George Pow, a tailor, on 9 May 1841 in Stirling, Scotland and they had three daughters before they emigrated to Otago in 1858 on the Jura.

The family settled in Dunedin and when Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition they were living in George St.

George died at his home in 1893 and Elizabeth died on 6 September 1895, they are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
