The family emigrated to New Zealand soon after Mary’s birth and settled in Dunedin.

Her mother died in 1910 and three years later Mary embarked on 'an extended tour through Canada and Great Britain'.
While staying in Glasgow Mary became ill and died on 15 November 1913 at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary.
