Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Louisa Sarah Clay was born in Kent, England – the daughter of Jonathan Clay, a labourer, and Louisa Jackson.

She married Reuben Richardson, a labourer, in 1872 – they had a daughter later that year and, in 1874, the family emigrated to Otago on the Hindostan.

They had a further 10 children in New Zealand and when Louisa signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Prince Edward Rd, Dunedin.

Reuben died in 1896, he is buried in the Southern Cemetery.

Louisa died at her home on 5 April 1911, she is buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
