Ruth Griffiths was born in 1863 in Kington, Herefordshire, England – the daughter of John Griffiths, a coachbuilder, and Emma Evans

Ruth emigrated to Otago with her family in 1873 on the Lady Jocelyn. She attended Caversham School in Dunedin and was awarded prizes for her reading and sewing.

She married David Scott, a produce merchant, in 1890 and they had three children.

Ruth died on 3 November 1918 and she is buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery with her two daughters.

David re-married, he died in 1931 and is buried in the Andersons Bay Cemetery with his second wife.
