She married Robert Sharp, a cooper, on 7 June 1867, in Glasgow and they had three children before they emigrated to Otago in 1874 on the Wild Deer.
They had a further three children in New Zealand and when Jane signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Opoho, Dunedin.
Jane died at her home on 1 August 1914 and Robert died in 1920 – they are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
