Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Bridget Mary Stackpoole was born on 7 February 1868 in Shanagolden, Limerick, Ireland – the daughter of Bartholomew Stackpoole and Catherine Mullins.

She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1875 on the Adamant and they settled in Dunedin.

When Bridget signed the suffrage petition she was living at Wendonside, near Waikaia with her sister Johanna. (See 145 Mrs M Farrington)

Bridget married Patrick Jeremiah Herlihy, a widowed police constable with one daughter, in 1901.

They had four sons, one who died in infancy, and lived, at first, in Waikaia.

In the 1910s they moved to Ashurst near Palmerston North.

Patrick died in 1920 in Dannevirke and Bridget died on 6 February 1948, they are buried together in the Mangatera Dannevirke Cemetery.
