Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Margaret Ann Roy was born on 30 August 1861 in Forgue, Aberdeenshire, Scotland — the daughter of James Roy, a ploughman, and Margaret Bagrie. (See 110 Maggie Roy)

Margaret emigrated to Otago in 1862 on the Grasmere with her parents, they settled at first in Dunedin then went to Wairuna in South Otago where they had a farm.

Margaret married James Taylor, a farmer, at her home on 13 March 1885 — they had ten children.

They farmed, at first, at Wairuna then moved to a new farm at Ashley Downs.

When they retired from farming they went to live in Dunedin where James died in 1929.

Margaret died on 15 November 1949, she is buried with James in the Clinton Cemetery.
