Agnes McMillan was born about 1837 in Ireland. She married George Thompson, a shoemaker, on 7 September 1855 in Glasgow and they had eight children.

In 1874 Agnes and George, with six of their children, emigrated to Otago on the Janet Court.

The family settled in Dunedin where George died in 1875.

When Agnes signed the suffrage petition she was living in Melville Street.

She died at her home in Upper Walker St on 15 July 1904 and is buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.

Agnes’ sister also signed the petition (See 90 Margaret Ewing)
