Annie S. Tregaskis was born Sarah Ann Joynt in Auckland in 1866 to Irish immigrants, Amelia and Charles Joynt. In November 1883, 16-year-old Annie won an award for her “crochet antimacassar” at the Auckland Sunday School Union Industrial Exhibition. On 19 March 1887 she married a bowls enthusiast and accountant originally from St. Issey, Cornwall, James Martyn Tregaskis. On 16 September 1887 their son Thomas Joynt Tregaskis was born.

Annie's mother Amelia Joynt and sister Charlotte Joynt also signed the Women's Suffrage Petition.

Annie died in 1939, age 73. She is buried alongside her husband in Waikumete cemetery.
