Sarah Jane Bissland was born in 1871 in New Zealand – the daughter of William Bissland, an express driver, and Sarah Paterson. (See 54 Sarah Hamer)
Sarah married Edward Vine, a compositor, in 1892 and they had two sons.
When Sarah signed the suffrage petition they were living near her mother in Howe St, Dunedin.
The family later moved to Oamaru, then Wellington, where Edward worked as an auctioneer.
Sarah died on 12 October 1951 and Edward died 10 weeks later. They were both cremated and interred in the Karori Cemetery, Wellington.
