Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Isabella Howe was born about 1828 in England. In 1848 she boarded the “Osprey” as an assisted immigrant. Her sister, Eliza Growden, and Eliza's husband were also aboard.

Isabella married Gavin Wardrop, a baker, in Victoria, Australia in 1850. They had a son in Victoria in 1854 and came to New Zealand about 1858.

Their son died in Dunedin in 1861, and they later adopted a son and daughter.

Gavin Wardrop died in 1897 and Isabella died on 23 October 1900. Her obituary says she “was well known for her benelovence and many acts of kindness. She was much respected by all who had the pleasure of her acquaintance, and will be greatly missed.”

Isabella is buried in the Southern Cemetery with her husband.
