Elizabeth Measor was born about 1831 in Brighton, Sussex, England- the daughter of Friend Measor, a bricklayer, and Ann Buddel.

She married James Washer, a plasterer, in Brighton in 1850 and they had six children.

In 1874 Elizabeth and James, along with their four youngest children, emigrated to Otago on the Corona.

When Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Forth St, Roslyn.

She died there on 1 January 1905. James died in 1911, they are buried with their daughter in the Northern Cemetery.
