Mary Ann Watt was born in 1869 in New Zealand – the daughter of Alexander Watt, a dairyman, and Catherine McLeod. (See 170 Catherine Watt)

When Mary signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Watt’s Road, North East Valley working as a dressmaker.

She married Thomas Long, a jeweller, on 6 November 1901 and they had two children.

Mary died on 5 November 1937 and Thomas died in 1952 – they are buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
