Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Alice was born in 1867 in Northamptonshire, England, the daughter of Thomas Wilby, an agricultural labourer, and Georgina Blundell, a lacemaker.

She emigrated to Otago on the Scimitar in 1874 with her family and they settled in Caversham, Dunedin.

When she signed the suffrage petition, Alice was living with her family in Smith St, Caversham and working as a machinist. Her mother Georgina and sister Pleasant also signed the petition.

Alice died in the Dunedin Hospital on 5 October 1895 and is buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
