Sarah Jane Dunn was born in 1845 in Burton upon Trent, Stafordshire – the daughter of James Dunn, a blacksmith, and Sarah Gent.
She married joiner Henry Williamson on 17 November 1877 in the Burton on Trent Parish Church.
They had four children before the family emigrated to Otago in 1883 on the British Queen.
They settled in Dunedin and when Sarah signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Union Street.
Sarah died at her home on 7 February 1909 and Henry died in 1923 – they are buried together in the Northern Cemetery.
