Margaret Fairbairn was born about 1835 in Scotland. She married John Williamson, a carpenter, in Melrose, Roxburghshire, Scotland on 9 March 1858.
Shortly after their marriage, they emigrated to Otago and settled in Dunedin.
They had eight children. When she signed the suffrage petition, Margaret was living in Elm Row.
John died in 1906 and Margaret died on 30 December 1914. They are buried together in the Southern Cemetery, Dunedin.
