Elizabeth Ann Yates was born in 1869 in Durham, England – the daughter of William Holdsworth Yates, a cab proprietor and fruiterer, and Mary Scurr/Scurra (See 93 Mary Anderson)

Elizabeth came to New Zealand with her parents about 1871 and they settled in Dunedin.

Elizabeth’s father died in 1877 and her mother remarried the following year.

Elizabeth signed the suffrage petition while living with her mother and stepfather in Great King St, Dunedin.

She married Henry Tulloch Tait, a carter, in 1900 and they had four children.

Elizabeth died on 16 June1950 and Henry died in 1959. They are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
