Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley
Catherine Christiana Rosevear was born in Saltash, Cornwall, England in 1869 – the third of five children of Matthew Rosevear, a storekeeper, and Christiana Glasson Wilcocks.
Her mother died in 1877 and the following year her father married Elizabeth Jane Perry. (See 71 E J Rosevear)
Shortly after her father’s re-marriage the family emigrated to Otago where Catherine’s eight half-brothers and sisters were born.
Catherine married James Young, a draper, in 1890 and they had two children.
When Catherine signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Frederick St, Dunedin.
James died in 1929 and Catherine died on 13 September 1945, they are buried in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
