Families of NZ soldiers arriving in Malaya

Families of New Zealand soldiers serving during the Malayan Emergency disembark from an aircraft of No. 41 Squadron RNZAF, circa 1958. Territorial officers and non-commissioned officers who enlisted for two years’ service were able to take their families to Malaya. A total of 61 families (including 100 children) joined the men of 1 New Zealand Regiment in Malaya, many of whom expereinced challenges adjusting to the different climate and lifestyle.
