In 2013, the Orpheus Choir of Wellington commissioned Dave Dobbyn to write a piece of music dedicated to the 29 men who died in the Pike River mine. They performed the song This love at Wellington's Michael Fowler Centre in May 2014. Among the audience that night were family members of the miners who lost their lives in the disaster.
