Memorial to the six Public Works Department staff who died during an explosion at the Ohakune Railway Ballast Quarry, 15 May 1916. The inscription reads:

Erected by officers and workmen of the Public Works Department in memory of 

Mellsop / Geoffrey Henry Jenner / 28 years
Larking / Horace Gregory Hewitt / 21 years
Davies / Arthur / 35 years
McGarry / Pat / 33 years
Torrens / Jackson Luke / 54 years
McCord / William / 38 years

who were killed by the accidental explosion in the Ohakune Railway Ballast Quarry May 15th 1916.
