Nga Tohu

In 1840 more than 500 chiefs signed the Treaty of Waitangi, New Zealand’s founding document. Ngā Tohu, when complete, will contain a biographical sketch of each signatory.

Ngātaiāepa signed the Herald (Bunbury) sheet of the Treaty of Waitangi on 7 May 1840 on board HMS Herald, which was anchored off the Mercury Islands east of the Coromandel Peninsula. He was a rangatira (chief) of the Te Rapupō hapū (subtribe) of Ngāti Pāoa.
