Cecil Harry Street was my grandfather. He served with the 2nd contingent and returned as a squadron sergeant major. He later rejoined with the rank of liutenant and went away with the 8th contingent. He was wounded at Ronoster Kop along with 30 others, six Kiwis were killed in this fighting. He was mentioned three times in Col Cradock's dairy and received praise for his fighting and scouting skills. After returning to NZ he went into the hotel business. First owning the Provincial Hotel in Dunedin, he later operated at the Royal Temuka Hotel. He returned to the Provincial Hotel about 1924 and sadly died in 1926. He was accorded a full military funeral and his flag draped coffin was carried on a gun carriage through the streets of Dunedin. He is buried at Andersons Bay cemetry.
