'H' was for 'Hugh' - name in full was Adam Hugh. Hugh subsequently left the NZ forces and enlisted with the Beuchannaland Volunteer Rifles - serial number 300. He was mentioned in dispatches and promoted to Lance Corporal. I understand he went onto the Johannesburg Mounted Rifles - still looking to confirm this. Hugh was my GGG Uncle.
