Yes he was my grandfather. He was born in Arrow town. His father and mother were Ralph and Caroline Buckham.
He came to South Africa to fight in the Boer war for the British.
He married my grandmother Elizabeth O'Farrell when she was 17 and he was 27.
He never returned to New Zealand. They had seven children of which four survived to adulthood. He and his sons become famous in the racing world in South Africa.
He being a famous trainer and his sons and grandsons also being famous jockeys.
My mother Biddy was his daughter.
