Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Agnes Richard Logan was born on 16 November 1822 on the Island of Bute in Scotland – the daughter of Alexander Logan and Janet Richard.

Agnes emigrated to Otago with her sister Mary in 1858 on the Jura. She married Henry Berwick, a cabinetmaker, on 28 February 1865, in Dunedin. They had no children. The year that they married Henry was declared bankrupt. He then took up farming at Logan’s Point near Pelichet Bay. He next worked as a carriage builder at the Hillside Railway workshops in South Dunedin. Agnes and Henry lived in Logie St, St Kilda.

Agnes died on 8 April 1889 and Henry died in 1903. They are buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
