Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Julia Agnes (known as Agnes) Lilburne was born in 1872 in New Zealand – the daughter of Andrew Lilburne, a veterinary surgeon and Johanna Murphy.

She married John Cunningham, a railway guard, on 23 August 1892 at her home in Milton.

When Agnes signed the suffrage petition she was living at Clarkesville.

They had 10 children and lived in Otepopo and Oamaru before settling in Dunedin where Agnes died on 17 March 1919.

John died in 1952 in Westport – they are buried in the family grave in the Andersons Bay Cemetery, Dunedin.
