Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Agnes Wilson was born on 26 November 1845 in Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland – the daughter of Robert Wilson, a warper, and Margaret Brown.

Agnes married James Davie, an engine fitter, on 22 June 1866 in Blythswood, Glasgow.

They had four children in Scotland (one appears to have died in infancy) before they emigrated to Otago in 1875 on the Timaru. They had five further children in New Zealand.

In August 1895 the family were living at Bradshaw St when their youngest daughter died. Later that year in December, Agnes applied for a prohibition order against James to extend over Dunedin, Caversham and Chalmers licensing districts for the period of a year. The order was granted.

James died in 1900 and Agnes died on 25 June 1902. They are buried in the family grave in the Southern Cemetery.
