Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Agnes Campbell was born about 1846 in Argyllshire, Scotland.

As a young woman she travelled to St Louis, Missouri, USA where, on 30 June 1866, she married Scotsman Robert Inglis, a gardener.

They had three daughters in St Louis before they returned to Scotland and, in 1874, the family emigrated to Otago on the Invercargill.

They had a further five children and settled in Port Molyneux where Agnes signed the suffrage petition.

Robert died in 1906 at their home 'Terrace Bank' in Port Molyneux – 'during the war years Mrs Inglis gave up the Port Molyneux property, and after living for a number of years with various members of the family, took up her residence in North-east Valley.'

Agnes died at her home on 2 August 1935, she is buried with Robert in the Port Molyneux Cemetery.

Her obituary said 'despite her ripe age, Mrs Inglis was in possession of all her faculties until the end, and could recall with great clarity the events of the American Civil War, which was being waged while she was resident in St Louis.'
