Agnes Bower was born in 1864 in New Zealand – the daughter of Hugh McDonald Bower, a blacksmith, and Agnes Marshall.

She married William John Manley, an upholsterer, in 1890 and they had six children.

When Agnes signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Leith St, Dunedin.

Agnes died at her home on 11 August 1934 and William died about three weeks later, they are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
