Agnes Ferguson McKichan/McKerchan was born on 20 October 1848 in Lanarkshire, Scotland – the daughter of Finlay McKichan, a cabinet maker, and Isabella Ferguson.
She married Robert Nimmo, a blacksmith, on 26 June 1874 in Glasgow and they had six children, two who died in infancy.
Robert appears to have emigrated to New Zealand in the early 1880s as Agnes travelled alone with their four remaining children in 1887 on the Arawa.
A son was born in 1888 who died the following year.
When Agnes signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Forth St, Dunedin and Robert was working for the Union Steam Ship Co. as a seaman.
They later moved to Chambers St, North East Valley where Robert died in 1907.
Agnes died on 2 September 1925, she is buried with Robert in the family grave in the Northern Cemetery.
