Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Agnes Orr was born in 1873 in South Otago – the daughter of Alexander Orr, a farmer, and Annie Cameron.

When Agnes signed the suffrage petition, she was living in Dunedin.

She had a son with Archibald Stewart Burt in 1898 and the following year she applied to the court for maintenance – 5s per week was granted.

In 1900, 1901 and 1903 Archibald was, again, in court for arrears of maintenance.

Agnes married in 1905 to painter and paper hanger, David Taylor.

Agnes and David had three daughters and lived in Milton. In 1919 their shop was destroyed in a fire after which David started a stationery shop.

David died in 1939, and Agnes died on 16 November 1960 – they are buried together in the Fairfax Cemetery.
