Agnes Wilson was born in Kilmarnock, Ayrshire, Scotland about 1819.

She married Thomas Steven, a tailor, on 11 November 1843 in Kilmarnock.

They had seven children before they emigrated to Otago in the early 1860s.

The family settled in Dunedin and when Agnes signed the suffrage petition they were living in Reid St, South Dunedin.

Agnes died on 13 August 1901 and Thomas died a few weeks later. They are buried together in the Southern Cemetery.
