Agnes Lumb was born in 1862 in New Zealand – the daughter of George Lumb, a shipping agent, and Agnes Gilbert.
She married George Tombs, a labourer, on 24 May 1888 in Dunedin.
When she signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Forth Street.
They had five children, the youngest only a few months old, when George died.
He was helping to build the Albany St gymnasium when he fell off a ladder and landed on his head. He was taken to hospital but died soon after.
A public subscription was taken up for the family.
Agnes died on 26 November 1942, at the age of 80, she is buried with George in the Northern Cemetery.
