Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Agnes Lawson was born about 1840 in County Derry, Ireland – the second daughter of Robert Lawson.

She emigrated to Otago in 1880 on the “Canterbury” and the following year, on 10 June, she married, compositor, Luke Tuckey at the Oamaru Manse.

They had 6 children, one who died in infancy, and when Agnes signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Macandrew Road, Dunedin.

Agnes died on 28 January 1929 & Luke died in 1943 – they are buried together in the Andersons Bay Cemetery.
