Biography contributed by Katherine Blakeley

Agnes Wright was born in 1871 in Manchester, England – the daughter of William Thomson Wright, a joiner, and Mary Cowan. (See 114 M Wright)

She emigrated to Otago with her family in 1874 on the Nelson and they settled in Dunedin.

When Agnes signed the suffrage petition she was living with her family in Clyde St, Roslyn working as a tailoress.

She married James Ure Wallace, a farmer, at her parent’s home on 15 June 1899, they had one daughter.

The family farmed at Ashley Downs near Clinton in South Otago before retiring to Mosgiel in later years.

James died in 1940 and Agnes died on 29 June 1941, they are both buried in the Clinton Cemetery.
