Agnes Stevenson was born in Victoria, Australia in 1862 — the daughter of Thomas Stevenson, a boilermaker, and Agnes Ball.
She married Frederick George Cray, an accountant, in Victoria in 1883.
They lived in Fiji for about two years where their first child was born before moving to New Zealand.
The family settled in Rothesay, West Harbour, Dunedin where Agnes signed the suffrage petition. They had a further five children, one who died at two years of age.
In the early 1900s the family moved to Wellington before retiring to Napier where Frederick died in 1934.
Agnes died at Masterton on 28 October 1935, they are buried together in the Park Island Cemetery, Napier.
