Alice Sanders was born about 1867 in London, England.
She emigrated to New Zealand and she married Samuel Aitchison, a blacksmith, in 1886.
They had 18 children, one who died in infancy, and when Alice signed the suffrage petition the family were living in Heriot, South Otago.
About 1903 the family moved to Featherston before retiring to Wellington where Samuel died in 1927.
Alice also died in Wellington on 12 August 1949, they are buried together in the Karori Cemetery.
